3D Printing for Tomorrows Einsteins

Events

2/11/17 9:30am-11am - 3D Printing 101: Curious what all this buzz around 3d printing is about? Well here's your chance to get your feet wet and be certified to use the CoCreateX's 3d printers.  Repetier-Host and Slic3r are the free printing and Gcode generating software that I will talk about. The class will also talk about how browsing Thingiverse.com can be a great way to find free designs that you want to print. TinkerCAD is the most user friendly design software and participants will get to design their own .stl file. Do you know the difference between a .stl file and a .Gcode file? If your answer is no then this class is right for you, if your answer is yes then you might find my other class, SolidWorks 101 more exciting. hosted by Pintstein at CoCreateX 1137 Burns Ave. Saint Paul, MN 55106. See eventbrite's events calendar for registration.

2/11/17 11am-12:30pm - SolidWorks 101: Solidworks is an industry standard design software and CoCreateX is the only makerspace in the twin cities that provides member with access to a computer with a Solidworks License. If you want to get your idea manufactured, Solidworks is the best CAD program to design it in. I am taking a class on Solidworks at Dunwoody Technical College and I want to share what I know so that other people can use this great resouce CoCreateX is offering. I ask that complete novices attend the 3D Printing 101 event hosted just before Solidworks 101.hosted by Pintstein at CoCreateX 1137 Burns Ave. Saint Paul, MN 55106. See eventbrite's events calendar for registration.

Classes that May Come Back by Popular Demand

2/13/16 11am-1pm - Comparative Anatomy of 3d Printers:  a show and tell experience. Come see me demonstrate the performance of Printrbot's Simple Maker, M3D's Micro, RepRap's i3 and Velleman's K8200.  I have spent a lot of time debugging and calibrating these FFF Cartesian style printers. Some of you might know more than me so feel free to bring your own hardware/experience for a show and tell. I will have a brief lecture about FFF-Delta, SLA, SLS and CLIP printers prepared so that participants in the class don't walk away thinking all printers are FFF printers. hosted by TC maker at the Hack Factory, 3119 East 26th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406.

8/13/16 11am-1pm - Repair Your 3D Printer 102: I have spent the last year trying to make the 3D printers at the Hack Factory and elsewhere reliable. Printing at a slower speed, printing with a different material and making sure you have properly followed Triffid Hunter's calibration guide are the three best debugging steps to get your printer back on track. If you have taken my 3D printing 101 class and you feel ready for the next chapter then this class is right for you. hosted by TC maker at the Hack Factory, 3119 East 26th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406. See the Hack Factory's events calendar for registration. Fee $10

3/12/16 11pm-1pm - Blender Basics for 3d Modeling: Blender is free open source software but it is not the most intuitive.  Accelerate your learning curve with this introductory class!  I will be focusing on making sure each student understands 7 commands necessary for good 3d modeling. hosted by TC maker at the Hack Factory, 3119 East 26th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406.

7/16/16 - Twin Cities Makeathon: A 28 hour event designed to bring teachers and makers together to learn how to use 3D printers and design software. The schedule starts with a formal class designed for 3D printing novices. 3D printing 101 is optional if you already have some hands on experience with 3D printing. Around 1pm or noon we will let you explore and brainstorm what you want to make during the event. 3D printing jobs that take over an hour to complete will be put on a waitlist so that every teacher is getting hands on experience with multiple 3D printers that first day. At 3pm saturday everyone registered for the laser cutting class will gather in the classroom and everyone else is welcome to keep on making to their heart’s content. Your host will be on site to help you with 3D printing and modeling for the entire 28 hours. You are by no means expected to stay the whole time. Think of this as a party. Do what you want but make sure you are being excellent to each other. Lots more information available at Pintsteinpro.com/make.html. hosted by TC maker at the Hack Factory, 3119 East 26th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55406. See the Hack Factory's events calendar for registration. Fee $20

Unleash your Creativity

I purchased several 3D printers in order to prototype educational toys but I am happy to use my printers to bring your ideas to life. A little over a year ago I knew nothing about 3D printing and I was frustrated that I couldn’t find anyone willing to teach me so now I offer my educational services. I hope Pintstein becomes the convenient technical support that allows Minnesotans to make their insane ideas a reality. I am really excited to see what children do with 3d printers because a lot of shapes that were previously impossible are now possible

Ask a Mad Scientist

It might seem strange that a lone Biologist can master 3D printing but there is a wealth of people sharing free knowledge and tools on the internet. I am not mastering 3d printing alone, I have an army of mad scientists, mad engineers, mad lawyers, ect on my side. Okay, maybe they aren't on MY side but we are all allies in the battle against ignorance. What do you need to defeat ignorance? Maybe I could be an ally in your battle.
